Bath Riverside Buildings B5 & B16
Bath
Crest Nicholson
The Brief
Design Delivery Unit were appointed by Crest Nicholson to deliver the two flagship buildings along the River Avon at Bath Riverside development. Dubbed ‘the Wedding cakes’ due to their diminishing curved floor plates, the brief was to work closely with the concept architect to reinforce their design intent through the detailing.
Added Value
Design Delivery Unit established a close working relationship both with the concept architect and the site sub contactors to ensure that the concept was understood by the delivery team and fully realised without being cost prohibitive.
Utilising Revit, Design Delivery Unit rationalised the atrium spaces and worked with Scott Brownrigg Interiors to develop and implement the ‘Vertical Living Green Columns’ concept within Building B5 and the living wall within B16.
Technical Challenges
The complicated curved form of the buildings, with each floor plate different to the one below, and the river edge location led to numerous challenges and constraints.
Informed the by the concept, the intricate stone and metalwork elements required careful consideration and collaboration to create beautiful yet robust details.
